How do students learn?

The short answer is that students learn very little in static environments. I’ve noticed that there is a general lesson plan that most high school classes follow. It goes along the lines of reviewing homework and then listening to a lesson on the new topic. There will be some group work interspersed throughout that routine, but in my opinion, there isn’t enough. Being able to collaborate is an important skill in the workplace. Even though much of the work in Science Research is independent, the atmosphere is still collaborative. Since all the students are working to find a mentor and organize their research, everyone is willing to help each other out.
